recently unearthed copies of the cult classic final album by east TN weirdo nu-metal collective Helio (1996-2003)
recorded by legendary producer & Today Is The Day leader Steve Austin in the summer of 2002, approximately one year before the band called it quits, this album is a document of a group at their creative peak, just prior to self destructing, the last gasps of a dying dream.
but nu-metal is really just the starting point here, as “until I wake up bleeding” dabbles in a variety of extreme sounds & translates them into something uniquely their own…
post rock riffs collide with drum & bass breaks, emphatic vocals cascade over layers of feedback driven guitar, guttural growls & bursts of straight up noise are interspersed throughout, while chopped up sample interludes ensure there’s zero silence from beginning to end, it’s like a fever dream that never lets up & if you put this disc on repeat, it doesn’t have to.
